What kind of shoes should I send?

At least one pair of tennis shoes (preferably two), and a pair of water shoes (think water socks or Tevas – flip flops are no good). For more packing specifics, please see the Safari Packing List.

Where do I send mail?

Mo-Ranch Conference Center
Camper Name
c/o Kidventure Safari
2229 FM 1340
Hunt, TX 78024-3037

Please allow about two days more than you would normally for mail to arrive.

Do campers have access to laundry?

Nope! This means that Session III campers will need lots of clothes! Sheets and bath towels are provided by Mo-Ranch. Campers do, however, need to bring beach towels for river swimming.

Can I contact my camper?

You may send as many letters or packages as you wish. Internet access at Mo-Ranch is spotty at best, so the only mail campers can receive is normal snail mail. Additionally, Session III campers will call home once, over the weekend. These are the forms of contact that are possible. We will contact you immediately in the event of an emergency.

My child needs to take medication while at camp. How does this work?

You will need to fill out a Kidventure Safari Medical Dosage Form. All medications need to be in their original container or packaging. If you want to send your child with any over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol or Benadryl to be taken as needed, you are more than welcome to. Those medications will still need to be in the original packaging and a Medical Dosage Form must still be completed. Please do not send any medications in your camper’s luggage.

How do you handle the heat?

Carefully! All campers are need to have a solid, wide-mouth water bottle (indestructible, big-mouth Nalgene brand). They are required to carry this with them everywhere. We stop to refill it several times a day. Campers are also reminded at regular intervals to bring sunscreen with them around camp and apply it often. Ultimately, the responsibility of applying sunscreen lies with the camper, so please practice this before coming to camp! All counselors are trained to look for signs of heat exhaustion, and will be monitoring camper behavior accordingly. We also fight the heat with frequent jumps in the river!

How can I stay in the loop during my child’s Safari session?

Follow us on Twitter! We’ll be tweeting Safari updates while we are at Mo-Ranch from our protected Twitter account, @kvsafari. We only approve Safari parents as followers. You’ll also receive an email each night of your child’s Safari session that gives you a great description of their day.

Will campers be required to participate in all activities?

We operate on a “Challenge by Choice” system. We never ever force or negatively pressure a child into doing any activity. Although we are really good at positive reinforcement, if a camper doesn’t want to do something, we support that decision and make sure the other kids do too. But camp is about trying new things, stepping outside your comfort zone (in a safe and controlled environment) and pushing yourself beyond where you have gone before. This is what makes camp so memorable, and this is also what makes camp have such a profound effect on kids.

Will you take pictures?

Of course! Pictures will be available to view and purchase shortly after your child’s Safari session ends. You will receive an email letting you know when the photos are available.

What paperwork do I need to submit?

You’ll need to complete and sign two forms for your Safari camper – Mo-Ranch’s Registration and Health Information/Photo Release Form, and Mo-Ranch’s Liability Release. These will be distributed to you via email. These forms should be returned directly to Kidventure, not to Mo-Ranch.

What are the staff qualifications?

All Kidventure Safari staff members are CPR and First Aid Certified. All staff members are adults aged 18 or older. All have no criminal history. Many, if not most, are veteran staff members. We handpick our Safari counselors from among our best staff members, so your child is getting the best Kidventure has to offer.
